# Why are my points fluctuating

Fluctuations are totally normal and nothing to worry about.

Your points depend mainly on when your device came online and how many heartbeats it’s sent—both of which are recorded on the ledger. The current formula compares what’s come in so far against what should have come in, and that can cause the score to bounce around a little—especially early in the day or after downtime.<br>

:tada:  It’s not a bug, it’s not a penalty, and it doesn’t affect your long-term score.<br>

We’re already working on an updated version of the algorithm that handles this better—so honestly, the current number doesn’t matter too much right now.
